Modern v traditional wedding rings
Essentially, the wedding ring is the only piece of your wedding which you will be carrying around for the rest of your life so you have to get it right. With a wide variety of different wedding rings on offer, though, you may be stuck between whether to choose a modern or a traditional wedding ring.
There is no correct answer to which ring you should buy, but each has their own unique qualities.
Aesthetic Qualities
Traditional wedding rings are typically made of gold, silver, or in some cases, platinum. They may also have a fairly modest setting complete with a gemstone; however this is not the case in all weddings as some countries and cultures insist on using plain wedding bands.
As you can probably guess, the modern wedding ring is the exact opposite of the traditional ring. The modern ring will usually be more elaborate and will tend to opt for more gem stones; which is a variation on the typical one gemstone which many traditional rings possess. You may find that many modern rings use very different materials such as palladium, or combinations of materials.
Another difference which is commonly viewed in the modern wedding band is the use of different coloured diamonds. In the past it was customary in a diamond wedding ring to have a white diamond, but now brides are choosing to add a new take on tradition by utilising different coloured diamonds; such as the white diamond with a silvered finished, which is also known as an iced diamond.
However, when modern and traditional wedding bands are compared amongst men there is very little difference between the two as both opt for a more conservative approach. The only real difference you will see between modern and traditional wedding bands is that patterns are cut into some of the modern versions of a man’s wedding ring.

Price
The most noticeable difference between the traditional wedding ring and the modern wedding ring is the price, though. Modern wedding rings are typically fancier and will naturally cost you more as gemstones are more prevalent and settings are much more elaborate. This makes the traditional wedding ring a great option if you are attempting to plan a weddings on a budget.
Alternative
But what if you don’t want a modern ring or a traditional ring? The answer is that there are quite a lot of jewellers who are now creating rings which blend the best qualities from the modern ring and the traditional ring. For example, the setting of the ring may be modest but the ring may use multiple gem stones. This will not only bring down the price but it will also give you an elegant look as you blend the past with the present and you can choose one with coloured stones to complement your beautiful Cocktail Dresses.

The Conclusion
The conclusion is that there is no right answer as each wedding is different, each couple is different, and everyone’s taste is different. If you are opting for a budget wedding then a traditional and conservative wedding ring may be the right decision for you. However if the sky is the limit, in terms of finances, then jazzing the traditional wedding ring up with an iced diamond or an elegant pattern on the band is always a popular option.
